Really nice Dan. It reminds me of Vaughan's "The World," something of the best metaphysicals. The dramatic and narrative elements ground it, leads us through the lofty imagery and significance.
Thanks, Robert. When I wrote the first draft of this poem, I was perhaps unconsciously trying to tap into that metaphysical strangeness that JZ often captures in his poems. As far as the narrative, I've gone back on forth with whether the story is "done" or if I should attempt a third movement. I had two additional stanzas drafted to end the poem, but they didn't add enough to justify including.
